The Casal Català of Vancouver is a non-profit organization that promotes the diffusion of the culture of the Catalan Countries in British Columbia, Canada. The Casal is open to all who love and appreciate our heritage. The Casal is the natural meet British Columbia residents from Rosselló, Illes, València, the Principality of Catalonia and La Franja. Stairway of the CanadiansWe have the pleasure to announce the unveiling of an historical plaque devoted to the memory of the Canadian Mackenzie-Papineau battalion of the International Brigades who fought on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The unveiling will take place 24 October 2009 at 12:30 p.m at carrer d'Arenys near number 75 beside the Community Centre Teixonera in the city of Barcelona. The plaque names two segments of public stairs about 150m long in honour of the Mackenzie-Papineau batallion to express the gratitude of the Catalan people to the brave Canadian volunteers that fought against fascism.
